Partners in Education (PiE) Launches $5.6 Million Fundraising Campaign

PiE funds bring social and emotional well-being programs, classroom aides, arts, music, and STEAM-focused classes and electives to all PAUSD students

(August 1, 2016) PALO ALTO, CA – Palo Alto Partners in Education (PiE) announced today the launch of its 2016-17 fundraising campaign, which aims to secure $5.6 million in donations for Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD). In an effort to encourage early and widespread community participation for a maximum positive impact on PAUSD schools, PiE announced that the campaign includes a $500,000 challenge grant and the ability for donors to fund gifts through installments.

PiE funds are allocated to every PAUSD school on a per pupil basis, by level, and allow every principal to put resources towards staffing the programs that matter most for the students and families at each school location.

“PiE donations make the difference between a solid education and an excellent one for all PAUSD students,” said Colleen Gormley, President of PiE’s Board of Directors. “This year’s campaign begins with a $500,000 challenge grant, which we hope will encourage families to double the impact of their contributions by pledging or donating to PiE between now and September 6, 2016. Every single gift makes an impact for the students. It truly is a whole community effort to support our schools through PiE.”

Donations to Palo Alto schools through PiE pay for additional supportive staff at every school and grade level, from pre-kindergarten through high school.

  • PiE funding underwrites critical positions including classroom aides, specialists in science, art, music, reading, and math, guidance counselors, freshman orientation teams, and college and career counselors.
  • PiE funds help PAUSD students find their passion by funding a rich array of electives such as music, marine biology, art, drama, engineering, computer programming, creative writing and industrial tech, and many more.
  • In high school, PiE-funded counselors provide college application assistance and elective instructors inspire students to take their interests to the next level in key STEAM classes.

“Support from PiE ensures continuity of vital programs that prepare PAUSD students to thrive as global citizens in a rapidly changing world,” said Dr. Glenn “Max” McGee, Superintendent of Palo Alto Unified School District, “The generosity of the Palo Alto community through PiE is instrumental in helping every child reach his or her fullest intellectual, social, and creative potential.”
