Partners in Education Foundation (PiE) Donates $5.3 Million to Palo Alto Public Schools

Parents and Community Unite Again to Support Excellence in PAUSD Schools

(February 24, 2015) PALO ALTO, CA – This week, Palo Alto Partners in Education (PiE) announced it has presented a check for $5.3 million to the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) for use during the 2015-16 school year. Thousands of Palo Alto parents and community members gave generously to PiE this year to ensure continued excellence in PAUSD schools.

This 2015 PiE donation will allow Palo Alto Unified to fund programs and people that support social and emotional growth, STEM exploration, and arts and music for students in every grade. PiE funds are allocated to every PAUSD school on a per pupil basis by level, and allow principals to put resources towards staffing the programs that matter most for their students.

“These funds reflect the community’s continuing commitment to education and youth,” said Asha Guha, president of the education foundation. “Thanks to our parent volunteers and our donors, the Palo Alto Unified School District can continue to provide a wonderful education experience for all students in our public schools. The 2015 PiE donation will fund critical staff and programs such as counseling, technology, STEM electives, teachers’ aides, art and music.”

“The Palo Alto community support for public education is remarkable,” said Dr. Max McGee, PAUD Superintendent. “With our state funding falling and our enrollment on the rise, PiE funds are essential for PAUSD to execute on our vision of creating a district where all students thrive.”

PiE Makes a Difference Kindergarten Through High School

The 2015 PiE donation will underwrite vital education staff and programs at all PAUSD elementary, middle and high schools, helping improve the school day for all students.

In all 12 PAUSD elementary schools, PiE dollars will fund classroom aides, instructional assistants, reading and math specialists, science and technology enrichment programs, music, dance and visual art instruction. In the three PAUSD middle schools, PiE will support guidance counselors, extra academic support in writing and math, and electives including music, creative writing, arts, broadcast journalism, biotechnology and industrial technology. In Palo Alto high schools, PiE funds will continue to provide increased counseling staff and support electives such as engineering, robotics, languages, music, and media.
