PiE 2014 Grant Announcement
Thanks to our donors and supporters, Palo Alto Partners in Education (PiE) announced today that it is granting $5.0 million to the Palo Alto Unified School District to provide essential programs for Palo Alto students during the 2014-15 school year. This gift is $100,000 more than PiE’s 2013 donation to PAUSD. We are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers and thousands of donors who worked together to support our students and make our campaign successful!
This year’s donations to PiE will fund the additional staff and programs that help Palo Alto kids connect with their passions and achieve their fullest potential. The programs supported by PiE funding make every student’s day at school more rewarding.
Community support of PiE allows Palo Alto to continue the tradition of public school excellence that is a cornerstone of our community. It provides the support and enrichment programs that make our schools among the best in the state, and give all our students the chance to explore, connect, and learn deeply. We are so grateful to all our donors and our volunteers for making the difference for all of our students. Thank you! Together, we help make Palo Alto schools the best they can be.
IN OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
In our thirteen PAUSD elementary schools, PiE dollars will fund the classroom aides that enable small group and differentiated learning, instructional assistants, reading and math specialists to lend an extra hand for the gifted and those who are working harder, hands-on science enrichment programs like those from the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, and music and arts instruction including Spectra Art that brings art instruction into nearly every elementary classroom in our district.
IN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS
In PAUSD middle schools, JLS, Jordan and Terman, PiE will fund supportive and caring adults who help students navigate this important stage of education and find their spark for learning. PiE donations will pay for guidance counselors who travel with students throughout the three years, getting to know each student more deeply and supportively; instructional coaches in writing and math to help ensure all students are learning these important subjects; and a rich array of captivating electives including classes like music, creative writing, arts, broadcast journalism, biotechnology and industrial technology.
IN OUR HIGH SCHOOLS
At the outstanding Gunn and Paly high schools, PiE funds the student guidance and counseling services that help ease the college admissions process for Palo Alto students, helping them achieve their best possible trajectory after graduation. PiE dollars will fund caring counseling and guidance, including outreach and communications for students and families. And, gifts to PiE will fund engaging electives such as engineering, technology, media and the arts, including the new “hybrid” courses that are giving students the opportunity to blend their learning between in-class and online sessions.
