Profiles: Board of Directors

PiE is a non-profit educational foundation run by a Board of Directors of dedicated parent and community volunteers with professional expertise in a variety of areas, including fundraising, finance, development, business, and marketing. Strong supporters of Palo Alto’s public schools, PiE Board Members understand that a public education is free, but a great education is not.

Doug Hagan – President

Doug Hagan works in the technology industry as President of Krytar. Previously he has held leadership positions in marketing with companies in wireless and networking.

Doug has been involved as a volunteer in the classroom and for the PTA as well as a coach and team manager for youth soccer, Palo Alto Little League, and USA Hockey. He also has served as Chair of the City of Palo Alto Library Advisory Commission.

Doug has lived in Palo Alto since 2008 with his wife, Alison, and their two children who attend Greene Middle School and Paly High School. He is a Leadership Palo Alto alum and holds a BA in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School.

Doug Hagan

President

Brette Hudacek – Executive Vice President

Brette Hudacek has been an active community volunteer for the past decade. From Girl Scout Troop leadership to serving on the Mothers Symposium Board, her experience ranges from working with young women to developing and promoting community events for all members of the community. She has served many years on the Walter Hays PTA Board including as Co-President. In addition, Brette has enjoyed being a PIE Representative for both Walter Hays Elementary and Greene Middle School where her two daughters attend school.

After graduating from Brown University with an ScB in Engineering, Brette spent 12 years working for DPR Construction where she wore many hats from Project Engineer to Business Analyst. In addition, she has a deep passion for sleep-away camp and recently fulfilled her dream of going back to camp as a counselor.

Brette Hudacek

Executive Vice President

Stacy Abel – VP of Leadership Circle & Community

Stacy Abel has been an active volunteer in the community since moving to Palo Alto in 2014. She served for two years as a co-VP of events for the PTA at Walter Hays Elementary School and is a PiE Representative. At Greene Middle School, Stacy has volunteered as the cross country and track coach. Stacy has a three children at Greene Middle School and Paly High School. Before moving to California, Stacy and her family lived in Mexico and Illinois.

As a couple, Stacy and her husband have participated in charitable events for New Story, Firelight, PiE, Open Arms for Children, and Casita Linda, a nonprofit in Mexico that builds homes in rural areas. Stacy’s professional experience includes marketing and public relations in the technology sector. Stacy holds a B.A. in Communications and German from Pennsylvania State University.

Stacy Abel

Victoria Chang – VP of Governance

Victoria Chang and her husband have three children in college and one child at Gunn High School, where she is currently a PiE Representative. She has been a PTA president and an active volunteer at the unit, council, and district levels, in addition to volunteering in the classroom and on site councils. She has also been involved in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and has served on local nonprofit boards.

Victoria has a J.D. from UC Davis and a Bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.

Victoria Chang

VP of Governance

Rosanna Jackson – VP of Marketing

Rosanna Jackson is a Bay Area native and so happy to have landed in Palo Alto. Her previous volunteer experience includes several years as PTA Webmaster, Project Cornerstone reader, Site Council member, classroom volunteer and Girl Scout leader.

Professionally, Rosanna worked for 13 years in Marketing at Oracle and various healthcare companies. She is currently the Director of Marketing at an architecture firm. Rosanna holds a B.A. in English from UCLA. She and her husband, Mark, have two children in PAUSD schools.

Leena Sansguiri – VP of Schools Development

Leena Sansguiri has two children attending schools in the Palo Alto School District. She has spent time volunteering in various roles at Preschool Family, Ohlone Elementary and Greene Middle School.

Prior to having children, Leena spent years working as an Engineer in the Silicon Valley. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley and a Masters from Stanford. She has been a resident of Palo Alto for more than twenty years.

Leena Sansguiri

VP of Schools Development

Kristina Toland – VP of Finance & Administration

Kristina Toland has been an active volunteer in Palo Alto schools for the last decade. Her favorite role is helping with math in the classroom, which she has done since her three children were in kindergarten. She has also served on the Board at Friends Nursery School, the PTA at Ohlone Elementary, and most recently as a PiE Representative at Escondido Elementary.

Kristina’s professional background is in tax and finance. She attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate and holds a J.D./M.B.A. from USF. She has held various positions in tax and financial planning, and currently works part-time on accounting and finance projects.

Kristina and her husband, Patrick, both grew up in the area and have lived in Palo Alto for almost 20 years. Currently they have a son in second grade in Spanish Immersion at Escondido, a seventh grade daughter at Castilleja, and a ninth grade daughter at Paly. They have given up their weekends to their children’s never-ending series of sports activities, and enjoy traveling as a family.

Kristina Toland

VP of Finance & Administration

Kaumudi Bhawe – Assistant Treasurer, Director of Finance & Administration

Kaumudi Bhawe is the mother of two daughters in the Palo Alto school district, where she has been living with her husband for close to ten years. She and her husband are both avid supporters of education and PiE! Kaumudi has been active in various roles in the Palo Alto community, including as a previous PTA Treasurer at El Carmelo, and as a Girl Scouts cookie mom.

After finishing graduate studies in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate NY, Kaumudi began her journey as a biotech professional and she has a breadth of work experience in drug discovery and development in industry and academic settings. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Public Health while actively being a “Palo Alto Mom.”

Kaumudi loves hiking, reading, practicing yoga, and camping with family to enjoy the lovely outdoors that is so easily accessible from the Bay Area.

Kaumudi Bhawe

Wesley Brandon – Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

Wesley Brandon, a father of a son and daughter in the PAUSD, is committed to helping Bay Area families thrive. Since moving to the Bay Area in 2018, he has volunteered as a Classroom Reader with Project Cornerstone, a parent caddie with U. S. Kids Golf, and as a coach with Palo Alto National Junior Basketball.

Wesley’s professional experience includes a variety of general management roles at Procter & Gamble, Rockwell Automation, Life Technologies, and Callaway Golf. Prior to moving to Palo Alto, Wesley and his family lived in San Diego for 12 years where he served as an Alumni Interviewer for Duke University and a PGA Jr. Golf League team coach.

Wesley has been married for 19 years to his college sweetheart and Duke/Harvard classmate Edrienne. As the first member of his family to attend college, Wesley earned a BSE in both Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Duke University and a MBA from Harvard Business School. Wesley is a member of YPO SFBay and is the President of CTEMS, an engineering and manufacturing company.

Wesley Brandon

Lucinda Brommersma – Director of Marketing, Visual Communications

Lucinda Brommersma has been an active volunteer in her daughters’ schools since 2010 when she relocated with her family from Ottawa, Canada, to Palo Alto. Starting at El Carmelo as a classroom volunteer and active member of the PTA, she then moved on to serve as the PTA Treasurer and VP of Fundraising.

Lucinda remains a committed volunteer at The Girls’ Middle School, helping in a variety of different areas, most recently as a co-chair of their annual Scholarship Breakfast fundraiser and as a member of the organizing committee for the seventh grade Entrepreneurial Night. Lucinda is passionate about supporting her girls in all their activities and has volunteered with their Girl Scout troops and served as Treasurer for a club soccer team. She has been an active volunteer in other areas including the Women’s Startup Lab and Bay Area Cancer Connections.

Lucinda currently works in marketing management, focusing on strategic alliances and business development. She has a B.A. in Political Science from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Her daughters are in sixth and eighth grade at The Girls’ Middle School and tenth grade at Gunn.

Lucinda Brommersma

Anamari Eng – Campaign Director of Elementary Schools

Anamari Eng has been actively involved with her children’s schools in Palo Alto for many years. She is currently a Project Cornerstone reader, a PTA and classroom volunteer, and a PiE Representative for Juana Briones Elementary School.

Anamari is a native of San Francisco and moved to Palo Alto with her husband in 2004. They have three children, two attending Juana Briones Elementary School and one attending Hope Technology School in Palo Alto. She enjoys traveling and exploring local trails with their family dog, Pax.

She graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in History and previously worked for United Airlines as a Business Analyst for Engine Planning and Asset Management.

Anamari Eng

Stephanie Frick – Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

Stephanie Frick is parent to three PAUSD students (Walter Hays and Greene Middle School). She has been an active PAUSD volunteer for the past 8 years. In addition to hands-on participation in the classroom, she served on the Walter Hays PTA Executive Board for three years including two years as VP of Communications, and one year as PTA Co-President. She has served on Site Council, co-chaired the Walter Hays Book Fair for five years, and has been a PiE Rep for three years. She is also a co-Troop Leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop, and volunteers for local non-profit There With Care.

Stephanie’s professional background is in media advertising and media sales, including working at ABC Network Sales for many years. She holds a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan.

Stephanie Frick

Heather Gaillard – Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

Heather Gaillard has been an active volunteer in Palo Alto public schools since 2013, engaging regularly in her children’s classrooms and serving as one of Fairmeadow Elementary’s PiE representatives. She has two children attending Fairmeadow, one in third grade and one in kindergarten.

She also has a broad base of volunteer experience, previously serving as Co-Chair of the OFJCC Preschool Parent Council and Marketing Board Chair for PAMP (Palo Alto Menlo Park Parents’ Club). She currently serves on the Board of Stanford ACT (Stanford Business School’s Alumni Consulting Team).

Heather’s professional experience includes serving in a variety of strategy and marketing executive roles. She was previously the Director of Marketing at Target Corporation in Minneapolis, overseeing marketing for consumer goods and grocery. Prior to that, she was a Director of Marketing and a Director of Strategy for eBay. She began her post graduate career at McKinsey & Company in San Francisco. Heather holds a BA in English from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Stanford.

Heather lives in Palo Alto with her husband Ben and their two children.

Heather Gaillard

Kate Glasson – Campaign Director of Secondary Schools

Kate Glasson has been an active volunteer throughout her children’s school age years in both Maine and California. Many of these roles have focused on fundraising efforts for the schools including Auction Chair for three schools and co-VP of Events for the PTA at Walter Hays. For three “sweet” years, Kate managed cookie sales for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. Kate has served as the PiE Lead Representative for Paly over the past three years.

Kate has served on several boards: Brixham Montessori Friends School and Berwick Academy, both in Maine, and the Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation in the Bay Area.

Kate holds a BS in Communication Disorders from Miami University and a MS in Speech Language Pathology from Sargent College at Boston University.

Kate Glasson

Christy Goralnik – Director of Marketing, Impact and Donor Relations

Christy Goralnik has been volunteering with PAUSD schools since 2011, serving on the Duveneck PTA Executive Board, organizing their Just Parties fundraising initiative, helping in the classroom, and serving as a PiE representative. She has two sons in PAUSD schools.

In her professional life, Christy spent several years working in Market Research for Amazon.com in Seattle, WA, and prior to that in Customer and Competitive Analysis for Charles Schwab in San Francisco. She holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, she volunteers with Safe & Sound, formerly the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center. She has been a weekly Talk Line telephone counselor with Safe & Sound for the past four years. She is passionate about providing a safe, healthy community and school environment for all PAUSD students.

Mallory Graffeo – Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

Mallory Graffeo has served on the PTA Executive Board at Walter Hays for 3 years. She has been a VP of Events for 2 years and served on the board as Secretary for one year. Mallory was a Walter Hays PiE Representative for a year. She was also the Co-Chair for the El Carmelo school auction. Mallory has two children who attend Walter Hays and one child at Greene Middle School.

Mallory has previously worked in sales and events for Pfizer. She also taught English in the Shelby County School District. Mallory has a B.A. and M.A. in English education from Mississippi State University.

Mallory Graffeo

Charu Gupta – Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

Charu Gupta has a passion for education and community. Her education includes a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Waterloo and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. She is also a licensed California Real Estate Broker. She has 25+ years of experience in industry in Engineering, Consulting, Product Management, and Engineering Program Management working at Tech startups and companies like Symantec, Google, and Facebook. She’s working on her 4th career now in real estate development and has a passion for modern architecture and takes great pride of authorship over the design and construction of her family’s home in Midtown.

Since her days in undergrad, Charu’s always been an active volunteer and leader in school and community organizations. She’s recently served on the Executive Board of the Digital Moose Lounge, the organization serving the ~200K Canadian ex-pats living in the Bay Area, and has held numerous roles within the Palo Alto community including PTA President of Hoover, VP Parent Ed for PTAC, After School Program Coordinator, STEAM Advisory Council Member, and Auction Chair.

Charu has two daughters—a rising 9th grader at Paly and a rising 6th grader at JLS. Her husband, Ajay Gandhi, is a VP of Product Marketing at Shape Security.

Charu Gupta

Kate Healy – Director of Marketing, Secondary Schools

Kate Healy is originally from La Jolla California and moved to Palo Alto in 2000 after living in Europe for 4 years. She worked in multiple tech companies in marketing leadership roles before starting her own company in 2010. Her company, Healy Consultants is a boutique marketing consultancy helping companies create integrated and targeted go-to-market strategies and programs.

Kate has been an active volunteer in her boy/girl twin’s school since kindergarten (El Carmelo and JLS). They are now starting 9th grade at PALY. She has also been very active in their sports and sponsored her son’s baseball team and was the manager. In her free time, Kate enjoys hiking, gardening and reading.

Joy Hinton – Director of Governance, Generalist

Joy Hinton has been an active volunteer in PAUSD since moving to Palo Alto in 2006, having volunteered at Briones, Fletcher and Gunn. She previously served as the President of the Fletcher PTA and President and Executive Vice President of the Gunn PTA. Currently, Joy is one of the PTAC E-News Co-Chairs.

In her professional life, Joy has worked as a securities law attorney in New York and California. She holds an A.B. from Harvard College and a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law. Joy and her husband, Andrew, have two children—a current Fletcher 7th grader and a 2016 graduate of Gunn.

Joy Hinton

Krista Johnston – Director of Marketing, Elementary Schools

Krista Johnston moved to the Bay Area 12 years ago and has a daughter and son attending elementary school in PAUSD. Krista has been an active volunteer in the Palo Alto community for over six years including the El Carmelo PTA, various roles in the classroom, and softball coaching.

Krista’s professional background includes public relations consulting for medical research and pharmaceutical companies in Vancouver, London, and San Francisco. Krista is originally from Vancouver, Canada, where she received a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of British Columbia. Currently she is focused on writing about science while organizing carpools, mom’s nights out, and the next travel destination for her family.

Krista Johnston

Jennifer Lee – Campaign Director of Elementary Schools

Jennifer Lee has been an active volunteer in PAUSD since moving to Palo Alto in 2014. Her children currently attend college, Paly High School and Ohlone Elementary School. From 2003-2014 she and her family lived in Seoul, South Korea, and Shanghai, China, where her children attended local schools, allowing her to experience a range of educational strategies and environments.

Jennifer has a BA and MA from Stanford University and an MFA from City University of Hong Kong. Her fiction and non-fiction have appeared in Your Impossible Voice, Drunken Boat, the anthology Afterness: Literature from the New Transnational Asia, the blogzine Printculture, Shanghai Family Magazine, and Arirang Magazine. She has been a featured speaker at “Shanghai’s Out Loud” and “Lit Up with Town Hall.” Recently she collaborated with artist and fellow Ohlone mom, Martha Sakellariou, on Plat du Jour and The Cubberley Project.

Jennifer Lee

Campaign Director of Elementary Schools

Sophia Lee – Treasurer, Director of Finance & Administration

Sophia Lee started her professional career at Arthur Andersen LLP in both the Taiwan and San Jose offices, where she provided auditing and consulting services to manufacturing and high tech companies. After 5 years working as an auditor at a public accounting firm, Sophia served as Controller and VP of Finance at various high tech companies. She is currently Operations Controller at Riverwood Capital Management.

In addition to volunteering in the classroom, Sophia serves on the Boards of 2 local nonprofit organizations.

Sophia is an inactive CPA in the State of California. She is originally from Taiwan and emigrated to Palo Alto in 1997. She and her husband, Julian, have a 4th grade daughter at Ohlone and a daughter in college, who attended Ohlone, JLS, and Paly.

Sudeshna Raha – Campaign Director of Elementary Schools

Sudeshna Raha has always valued education and has spent many hours in the last decade volunteering at her kids’ schools. Be it helping kids with Math at Math Lab or crafts in Spectra Art, she found time to balance her full-time work with her volunteering interests. Sudeshna has also been a longtime representative for PiE, serving on the PiE teams for Walter Hays Elementary, Greene Middle, and Palo Alto High Schools.

Sudeshna’s professional experience ranges from being a Principal at a Strategy Consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton (now Strategy&, part of PWC), to General Manager of Wells Fargo Bank’s Wholesale Online Banking Portal, and now Product Marketing at Apple.

Sudeshna has a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, a Post Graduate Degree in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and a MBA from the McCombs School of Business, UT Austin. She lives with her husband and two children in Palo Alto and enjoys international travel, food, hiking, and backpacking in the beautiful California outdoors. Sudeshna is also interested in theatre and performs in amateur plays.

Sudeshna Raha

Campaign Director of Elementary Schools

Meera Saxena – Campaign Director of Elementary Schools

Meera Saxena has been a volunteer at the Palo Alto Schools over many years. She has worked in classrooms, helped with larger school events and worked at the district’s arts department as a volunteer for the “Meet the Masters” program. Her areas of interest are environmental issues, the arts, and community building. She has also been actively involved as a volunteer and Board member at GeoKids (a pre-school in Menlo Park) as well as the Arts Center in Palo Alto where she was a docent for school groups.

Meera has a Masters in Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Texas in Austin and had her own firm in New Jersey before moving to California. She and her husband have two students in PAUSD, a senior at PALY and an eighth-grader at Greene.

Meera Saxena

Campaign Director of Elementary Schools

Kirstin Sego – Director of Marketing, Communications

Kirstin Sego is parent to two PAUSD students (Greene and Ohlone) and step-parent to a Paly grad (class of 2017). She grew up in Menlo Park, and moved back to Palo Alto over ten years ago when she was starting a family.

Her early career in educational publishing transitioned to managing content and content products for now-defunct search engines Excite and Alta Vista, and later for the web properties of the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Since then, she has become an active volunteer in her children’s schools, including leadership positions at Parents Nursery School and at Ohlone, where she chaired the Site Council and the biannual PTA auction.

Kirstin holds an undergraduate degree in literature and translation theory from Pomona College. She loves to read, hike, and plan elaborate international travel for her family.

Patrick Sullivan – Director of Finance, PiE Innovation Grants

Patrick Sullivan is the father of three children in Palo Alto Public Schools and is an avid supporter of public education and children’s welfare. This year, Patrick served as a PiE Rep for Barron Park Elementary.

Patrick has over 20 years of experience in the Staffing and Human Resources field. Patrick currently serves as a Staffing Manager supporting Research & Engineering recruitment at Google, leading teams to map, source and hire the world’s top computer science talent. Prior to joining Google, Patrick held a variety of global HR and Staffing leadership roles at both Microsoft and Amazon. He has a B.S. in Psychology from Michigan State University.

Shirley Sun – Campaign Director of Secondary Schools

Shirley (Yan) Sun has been living in Palo Alto for 7 years. She has two kids, a 15-year-old boy in Paly and a girl is 13-year-old girl in JLS.

Shirley received her degree in international trade and ran her own business in China before moving to the US.

Shirley has been a PiE Rep for six years at El Carmelo and JLS. She loves this opportunity to help kids grow better and happier.

Shirley Sun

Sushmita Vij – Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

“Sush” Vij has been an active PAUSD volunteer, serving as the VP of Fundraising at Addison and leading other volunteer activities such as the Book Fair, managing sponsorships, and classroom support. Prior to joining Addison, Sush chaired and played significant roles at the auctions in her children’s schools including Synapse School and Bing Nursery School.

A versatile leader with a history of producing double-digit revenue growth by leveraging analytics as the basis for strategic planning, Sush was Product Director at Microsoft for over six years. She recruited and developed top-performing teams at Microsoft and Deloitte before that. She is a thought leader, author, and influencer in field of Internet-based video services, mobile products, and information technology.

In 2012, Sush elected to take a 6-year hiatus to focus on family. During this time, Sush owned and sold a successful restaurant, Junnoon on University Avenue, and served in leadership roles for 2 international non-profits, Hand in Hand Parenting and Rising International.

Sushmita Vij

Christina Wilner – Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

Christina Wilner has been an active volunteer for her daughter’s elementary schools for the past five years, including the last three at Lucille M. Nixon, where she has been a PiE representative. She’s served actively with Girl Scouts, including two years as a Co-leader for both the Daisy and Brownie troops, a room parent for four years, soccer club manager for three years and Living Classroom docent for two years, respectively. In other school-related efforts, she spent one year volunteering for Site Council and Project Cornerstone. She has been a PiE representative at Nixon for the last two years. Her favorite creation was two summers of “Camp Freestyle,” an unstructured, open play camp for eight children at her home.

Christina’s professional experience is in marketing and technology with a focus on educational software/content. It includes stints with The Walt Disney Company as a Brand Manager for an online game for children and development of an online preschool product. At The Lightspan Network her role focused on subscription software marketing for education and educators.

Christina Wilner

Director of Development, Leadership Circle & Community

Bruce Woodley – Secretary, Director of Governance

Bruce Woodley grew up in Vancouver, Canada, and moved to Palo Alto in 1993 to pursue graduate studies. He has founded and participated in a number of startups over a broad range of industries, including UAVs (drones), telecom, enterprise software, medical robotics, sensors for autonomous vehicles, and autonomous laser eye surgery. He was a finalist in the 2009 Canadian Astronaut selection.

A long time competitive bagpipe player, he has volunteered as an instructor/leader for a San Francisco-based youth bagpipe band, taking the group to compete at the annual World Championships in Scotland from 1996-2001. He has enjoyed volunteering in the classroom in elementary school, but had limited success in getting the kids to laugh at his puns. He is passionate that diverse life experiences, such as those promoted by PiE, are important in developing creative, flexible, and energetic children.

Bruce has 2 children (JLS, El Carmelo), is a husband, and spends his free time riding bikes, running, and flying small airplanes with his family. He holds a BASc in Engineering Physics from Simon Fraser University, and MS/Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford.
